Lawmakers continue to pass legislation that strengthens consumer’s and user’s rights. From data privacy to product documentation to technical specifications to certification requirements, governmental bodies pass stipulations that suppliers and manufacturers need to comply with. Consequently, these organizations need to seamlessly document what they do and how they do it.
Consistent traceability is a key objective organizations must address. Above all, traceability needs to be enacted to ensure a stringent flow of information. This allows suppliers and manufacturers to provide information about who did what to their products at which point in time. This is particularly relevant when car manufacturers have to recall a model due to a defect. In that sense, traceability is also an indispensable prerequisite to meet quality standards and technical specifications.
Therefore, traceability is a mandatory ingredient to ensure flawless product documentation. Additionally, overall complexity is bound to increase in many industries. New legislation, along with new products, are requiring manufacturers to handle and process a rising number of parts and components for assembly. In some industries, product variants and short product life cycles not only add to the existing complexity but also block full-fledged automation.
